American Folk Music and Mississippi Bluegrass Championships

Folk Music Festival comes to New Albany, Mississippi

The American folk music heritage of North Mississippi is diverse.  Each year, during the month of May, talented area bluegrass musicians and artisans come to New Albany to perform at the Mississippi Bluegrass Championships at  Down from the Hills Heritage Music and Folk Life Festival.  Visitors hear music that ranges from traditional southern and acapella gospel to bluegrass and delta blues.  Fiddle players abound. Bluegrass competitions in fiddle, guitar, banjo, dobro, and mandolin- both youth and adult.  You never know what musical groups will show up for jam sessions under the trees.  Folk art, music workshops and more!  The festival has a two-fold purpose -- to celebrate our area's musical and folk life heritage and to provide a venue for american Folk Music and Mississippi Bluegrass. The admission cost is $5 to the festival.
